VPN Myths That Make Privacy More Confusing

A VPN encrypts network connections, but it does not make you anonymous. It cannot hide your identity if you log into websites or leave tracking cookies in your browser.

Myth 1: Total Anonymity

Many VPN providers advertise total anonymity. In reality, a VPN only hides your public IP address and local internet activity. If you log into your Google, Amazon, or social media accounts, those companies will associate your session with your identity, regardless of the VPN tunnel.

Myth 2: Immunity from Malware

A VPN is not an antivirus tool. It encrypts traffic data in transit but does not scan files for malicious scripts. Safe downloading habits are still critical.

Myth 3: No-Logs Means Zero Data

No-logs claims are standard in marketing copy. However, users should understand that minimal data is always processed to maintain account eligibility and enforce device limits.
